Purcellville's Holiday Saturday Runs as a Relay From Noon to Dark

On Saturday, Dec. 12, road closures for the Purcellville Holiday Parade begin at 11:30 a.m. From then until dark, the town's holiday events overlap. The parade and the holiday market at Bush Tabernacle both start at noon, and the market stays open until 6 p.m. Loudoun Valley Community Center has pictures with Santa and a free ornament workshop, with the workshop running from 2 to 5 p.m. The Holiday Lights Tour map is released the same day, so the drive past the lights fits after dark.

Each event is still going when the next begins, so one household can do all of them in a single afternoon if it plans for the overlaps. The plan comes down to three decisions: where you park before the closures start, where you eat while the parade crowd clears, and which venue you pick up the 2 p.m. window from.

The Friday that comes first

The Town Tree Lighting is Friday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Purcellville Town Hall, 221 S. Nursery Ave. The town's listing promises performances, treats, a countdown and "a special visitor from the North Pole."

The calendar matches last year's. In 2025 the tree lighting was Friday, Dec. 5, and the parade was Saturday, Dec. 13. Both years use the first Friday and second Saturday of December, so the dates move by one day while the pattern stays the same.

A parade loop with a waitlist

The town's event listing on Visit Loudoun gives the route. The parade leaves Blue Ridge Middle School and turns right onto A Street, right onto 20th Street, right onto Main Street, right onto Maple Avenue and right onto A Street again, then returns to the school. Road closures begin at 11:30 a.m.

Last year's numbers show how much fills that loop. A Dec. 12, 2025 update to Town Council counted 113 parade entries and 30 horses, with applications closed and a waitlist in place. According to Loudoun Times-Mirror, hundreds of people lined the streets for floats, first responders and the Loudoun Valley High School marching band. Loudoun Now's photo gallery showed Interim Police Chief Sara Lombraña leading the procession, with Town Council members and local organizations behind her.

With more than a hundred entries and dozens of horses, the parade takes a while to pass any one spot. Anything you wanted to drive to downtown should be done before 11:30 a.m. or saved for later.

Parking is the first decision of the day

A downtown guide from Western Loudoun lists four free public lots, and many of them have two-hour limits:

  • Downtown lot at 21st and 23rd Streets
  • Main Street lot next to 120 W. Main St.
  • Hatcher lot at Hatcher Avenue and Main Street
  • Fireman's Field lot at 250 S. Nursery Ave.

The Fireman's Field lot has the same street address as Bush Tabernacle, where the market runs from noon to 6 p.m. Market shoppers and parade-goers will be looking for spaces at the same address at the same time. The guide also mentions on-street parking along 21st Street and tells drivers to follow the posted signs. The events run from noon until dark, so a two-hour limit can run out partway through. Check the sign before you settle on a space for the whole afternoon.

Lunch on 21st Street while the loop clears

The parade starts at noon, which puts lunch right after it. Western Loudoun describes downtown Purcellville as Main Street and North 21st Street, with shops and restaurants a few blocks apart. Its business directory was marked verified on Oct. 29, 2026.

North 21st Street has the most places to eat close together:

  • Bia Kitchen, 108 N. 21st St., has fall service hours posted on its site.
  • The Hardware Cafe, 131 N. 21st St., serves coffee, sandwiches and snacks and takes online orders, which helps if you want food in hand before walking over to the market.
  • Magnolias at the Mill, 198 N. 21st St., appears in the downtown directory.

On West Main, Purcellville Family Restaurant at 110 W. Main St. is also in the directory. Market Burger Fries & Shakes at 145 W. Main St. lists Tuesday through Sunday service, so it is open on a Saturday. Main Street is part of the parade route, so these two are easiest to reach once the last entry has passed.

Magnolias at the Mill is also behind Maggie's Corner Café at 713 E. Main St., which it has announced for late fall.

The 2 p.m. handoff

The schedule is built around the middle of the afternoon. The market runs six hours and the ornament workshop runs three, so you can go to both in either order. You can shop first and walk out at 2 p.m. as the community center opens, or you can go to the community center first and still have an hour at the market after 5 p.m.

At Bush Tabernacle, vendors sell handcrafted jewelry, candles, soap and home décor, and children can get their faces painted. The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area LEGO Train Club sets up its train display inside. The market had the same building, hours and LEGO display last year, so anyone who went in 2025 will find the same setup.

At Loudoun Valley Community Center, the ornament workshop is free. Community center staff and members of the Purcellville Arts Council lead it. For pictures with Santa, the town asks families to bring a wish list and their own camera, so a charged phone is all you need. Last year, Santa photos and the ornament workshop shared the same 2 to 5 p.m. window.

Five o'clock is the deadline that matters most. The workshop ends then and the market stays open another hour, so a late start costs you the community center before it costs you the market.

After dark, the map takes over

The Holiday Lights Tour gives the day an evening portion. The Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board puts it together. This year's map will be posted on Dec. 12 on the town website and on the Facebook pages for the Town of Purcellville, Purcellville Parks and Recreation, and Christmas in Purcellville. Because the map comes out the same day as the parade, the town has put its daytime events and its evening drive on one Saturday.

The town's 2025 release explains how houses got onto last year's map. Homeowners and businesses inside the town registered their decorations online by Dec. 1. Volunteers from the advisory board then drove past every registered address by Dec. 8 to confirm the lights were up, and the map went live on Dec. 13. That means each house on the map was checked by a volunteer before it was listed. If you want your own house on this year's map, keep an eye on the town's Holidays in Purcellville page for the 2026 registration window.

By the time the market closes at 6 p.m. it is dark, and the map is already out. You can take the drive straight from the market.

The schedule in brief

  1. Before 11:30 a.m.: park, keeping both the closures and any two-hour limits in mind.
  2. Noon: the parade leaves Blue Ridge Middle School.
  3. After the parade: eat on North 21st Street or West Main.
  4. 2 to 5 p.m.: the ornament workshop and Santa at 320 W. School St., before or after the market.
  5. Until 6 p.m.: the market and LEGO trains at Bush Tabernacle.
  6. After dark: drive the route on the Holiday Lights Tour map.

The decorating that puts a Purcellville house on the lights map also shows in its listing photos, and a December walkthrough is a good time to see how a home presents in winter.
